Built for the tracks, not the showroom.
I'm an Australian 4WD bloke who has spent a fair chunk of his working life around cars, workshops and suspension. I've run automotive businesses, worked with customers who actually use their vehicles, and spent more hours than I care to count figuring out why something doesn't fit, doesn't work or could have been made better in the first place.
These days I'm based in France, still tinkering with my own old Nissan Patrol Y60 and still properly interested in what makes a touring four-wheel drive work. Not just how it looks parked outside a café, but how the suspension behaves when it's loaded, how recovery gear works when you need it and whether a part is genuinely worth the money.
That's the thinking behind Terra Australis Technical.
Australia has some seriously capable small engineering and fabrication businesses. They build gear for long distances, rough tracks and people who rely on their 4WDs. I've come across plenty of parts I'd happily fit to my own vehicle but which are awkward, expensive or nearly impossible to source here in Europe.
So I decided to do something about it.
We've started with Canna Fabrication for properly made stainless snorkels and airboxes, George4x4 for recovery equipment, and KINGPIN Fab for well-thought-out Land Rover steering, suspension and fabrication parts. They're specialist Australian suppliers, not just another batch of anonymous accessories with a different sticker on the box.
I'm not interested in selling something simply because it looks impressive in a photo. I want to know how it's made, what problem it solves and whether it'll suit your particular vehicle. And if the honest answer is that we need to check with the manufacturer first, that's exactly what we'll do.
We're based in France, but most orders are made, packed and dispatched by the Australian workshop that builds the part. We arrange the product, check the details and put together a delivered quotation so you can see the freight and import arrangements before committing your money.
Good gear. Straight answers. No bullshit.
That's the idea. And if you're anything like me, half the fun is making the vehicle a little bit better than it was yesterday.
